When most people search for a domain name for their site,
their fist thought is I need a catchy name, something everyone
remembers. Sorry to ruin this thoughts. Casino.com and Slots.com
are already taken.
Selecting your domain name will have to
be based on one simple one fact, google definitely boosts
ranking of sites where the search term is included in the
domain. So if you are building a video poker site you should
include the "videopoker" in the domain name or
other related terms.
An
other question that no one really knows the answer is ".com",
".net" or any other dot. Well, there are successful
sites that are not a dotcom site but the word is that dotcom
is the best , heck it's even cheaper than most others.
Anecdote
My friend Ellen owns several sites in different gambling
niche. One of her best site is: pokerpokerandmorepoker.com.
Very exhausting? Well, think about it. It is a poker related
site. Having a domain name with the related term "poker"
in the domain is great. You check her ranking, it is a top
ranked site!
Warning
"High Profile Internet domain names" is how domain
sale sites describe their fantastic selection of domains,
I don't. Most sites offer a fresh domain site they registered
(or someone else registered and put for sale) and their
prices are very high. No one invested any time to "Brand"
the domain so the usually have no ranking. No ranking means
you will have to do it from scratch by yourself. So if you
are going to do it by yourself, why not buy a domain for
less then ten dollars!
Abandoned
domain
An abandoned domain is a domain that used to be a website
where the owner did not renew the domain name. For some
reason, possibly not enough time to keep the website current
or too many websites to keep up with, the owner allowed
their domain name to expire. Each week thousands of domain
names are not renewed leaving them open for anyone to register.
Many of these domains still have traffic going to them,
some with large amounts due to active links throughout the
Internet and being in Yahoo listings before it became a
pay to list site. From my experience it is very difficult
to find a gambling related abandoned domain but I think
it worth tracking. Think about it, buying a domain that
has couple of hundreds gambling visitors a month for less
then $10 a year (domain name registration) is something
every gambling guide webmaster wishes for.
